How I use voice input

(updated )

I use voice input dozens of times per day on my laptop.

Wispr Flow is the best option for most people.1

On mobile, I use the voice input on ChatGPT and Claude apps more often than typing. I like to walk while I talk.

For longer walking dictations (e.g. a week review), I use the Google Pixel Recorder app. The ChatGPT and Claude apps have a dictation limit of under 10 minutes, and both are somewhat buggy (sometimes loosing the entire dictation if your connection is flaky).

Footnotes

  1. Update December 2025: Sotto.to, launched this month, might be the best alternative to Wispr Flow. Notably, it processes your dictations locally (rather than in the cloud). It's also a $19 one-time purchase, rather than $12 / month. I'll try it soon.
