Codex CLI can now directly control my Chrome browser
Direct control of Chrome—with the profile you use, not a Playwright version or whatever—landed in my Codex CLI on Friday, via the official chrome plugin.
Previously—for me at least—the chrome plugin never worked from the CLI. It was only available in Codex via the ChatGPT desktop app, so Codex CLI could only control Chrome via the Computer Use plugin.
Much like the Computer Use addition in July, this hasn’t been officially announced. Makes me wonder if I’m just late to this party due to a quirk of my setup, but I don’t think so.
